Sam Donaldson to Speak at Key
February 4, 7:30 p.m.
The second speaker for Key’s 50th Anniversary Speaker Series is Sam Donaldson. A forty-one year ABC News veteran, Mr. Donaldson is revered as one of our nation’s best news correspondents. He served two appointments as chief White House correspondent, and co-anchored “Prime Time Live,” with Diane Sawyer, for ten years. Currently, Mr. Donaldson hosts a daily show, “Politics Live,” on ABC News Now (the ABC NEWS digital network). Click here to learn more about Mr. Donaldson’s career

50th Anniversary Speaker: Sandy Ungar
Where Are We Going and How Will We Get There?
November 6, 2008, 7:30 p.m.
Sandy Ungar will discuss educating students for the 21st century, providing both personal and universal insights of how best to prepare our children for college in an era of instant global communication. In this exciting election week, he will also offer an insider's view of the interplay of politics and education. Mr. Ungar will answer questions from the audience, giving ample time for a thoughtful exchange.
Mr. Ungar, currently the president of Goucher College, is a dynamic speaker. Formerly, he served as the director of Voice of America and was dean of the School of Communication at American University in Washington, D.C. A well-known print and broadcast journalist, he hosted All Things Considered and other programs on National Public Radio and has contributed over the years to publications such as The Washington Post, The Economist, The Atlantic, and United Press International.

50th Anniversary Panel
Skillfully moderated by Humanities Department Chair Charlie Flanagan, a panel of Key veterans filled the audience with nostalgia and pride as they reflected on both their years at Key and the School's distinctive qualities. The panelists were: College Advisor Paul Stoneham (in his 39th year at Key), parent and board member Harry Ivrey (Class of 1971), founder Tom Simpson, teacher Jayne Karsten (in her 21st year at Key), and Fine and Performing Arts Department Head Rick Layton (in his 30th year at Key). Head of School Picnic - A Glorious Celebration
The campus was abuzz with activity as multiple generations of Key School people gathered in celebration of this milestone year. The camaraderie–along with the fun, food and games–made for a wonderful afternoon that was further enhanced by the beautiful fall weather and the presence of so many former Key students and teachers. Gaviotas Seminar
As part of Key’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, three seminars are being offered during this School year. September’s Seminar brought the Upper School community together for a discussion of Alan Weisman's Gaviotas, a book read this summer by all members of Key's Upper School. The discussions, focusing on the theme of community values, were lively and engaging.
