5th & 6th Grade Optional Appalachian Trail Hike
November 6, 2010

On a crisp early-November Saturday, twenty 5th and 6th graders gathered to hike approximately five miles of the Appalachian trail near Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia. Led by Outdoor Education Head Brian Michaels, Upper School teacher Dan Schoos, and Middle School science teacher Keith Porterfield, the hikers worked together to carry their community food and gear, stopping for lunch at a rustic trail hut. Upon conquering the final summit, they were rewarded with a stunning view of the Potomac.
