Endowment for Teaching and Learning
The Key School’s greatest strengths are its students, its faculty and its program. Key students are curious, lively, enthusiastic, articulate and self-confident. Key’s faculty is noted for their experience, their intellectual vitality, their concern for students, as well as their dedication for our program, which emphasizes experiential and innovative learning. Central to The Key School Mission are the unique programs that embody the strong curriculum that supports learning from age three through eighteen and beyond.
Beginning with Pre-School and in Lower School, an emphasis is placed on instilling a love for learning through many meaningful hands-on experiences. In Middle School, cooperative learning occurs as students assume responsibility for their individual learning and participate in many multidisciplinary experiences. The Upper School fosters the exploration of ideas and discourse as students learn to think and act on their own convictions in an extremely supportive Pre-Kindergarten through grade twelve learning environment. Key’s rich curriculum, which encompasses the arts, music, outdoor and environmental education, athletics, life-skills and citizenship, prepares our students to gain a global perspective.
Our Culture
Perhaps no mandate in The Key School’s Mission Statement lies closer to the heart of the community than its injunction to “sustain an ethical school culture that engenders an inherent respect for the dignity of every human being, recognizes that personal liberty must be balanced by personal responsibility and individual action by the needs of others, and stresses to all members of a diverse School community the importance of trust, mutual respect, compassion, and service to others.” The School’s objective is not simply to teach children to be good students; it also bears the responsibility to encourage them to be good citizens and over time, to internalize the core values of respect, responsibility, and honesty.
Areas of Support
The School’s Teaching and Learning needs are as diverse as its rich curriculum and program. Areas of support may include the Fine and Performing Arts program, the Athletic program, the Environmental Education program, the Library program, the Music program, the Outdoor Education program, and Technology needs.
