Objects in situ at the Rumney's Tavern siteA gentle breeze lifted the last layer of powdered earth from a field of glistening glass and ceramic sherds. The discovery stirred the archaeologist's mind anew.

  • How thriving a town had London been?
  • Who had lived there during its brief history?
  • Where had the buildings been located in this now empty field?
  • What had life been like in this early colonial town?

Why had it disappeared, leaving only the Georgian mansion, the Brown House, to survive into the next centuries?

Surveying the littered field before her, she smiled. She knew that she had discovered an archaeological gold mine - a trash heap! Her mind raced ahead to the team she would assemble: archaeologists versed in the latest field methods and research capabilities, and an army of volunteers. And she knew right where they would start digging - in this trash heap. Whose trash lay beneath the dirt before her, and what stories might the long-abandoned artifacts help reveal?
