Why Choose Key's First School?

Exploratory work that engages teachers and students in a shared process of discovery promotes curiosity, builds analytical thinking skills, and enables intellectual development to take a foothold.

The program is further distinguished by:

  • Experienced faculty—attuned to current brain research and educational practices —instill excitement for academic work in math, science, and language arts.
  • Small classes—coupled with the support and expertise of school-wide learning specialists—enable differentiated classroom instruction tailored to each child's skills, work habits, and learning style.
  • External partnerships —ranging from affiliations with nationally renowned music and arts education associations to global connections with Key's sister schools in Tanzania and England—support the curriculum and experiential learning.
  • Curricular connections across the school bring students from grades 1 through 12 into the First School for shared projects and activities.
  • Emphasis on respect for each individual and openness to multiple perspectives develops in children the confidence to think independently, the skills to work collaboratively, and an understanding of their role as citizens within the community.
