Traditional Day Camp

Traditional Day Camp
Ages 3 ½ to entering Grade 3

The Traditional Day Camp is a full or half day camp available for children in pre-school (aged 3½ who are potty trained and not using training underwear) to those entering 3rd grade. Campers entering first, second or third grades may elect to spend the full day in the Traditional Day Camp, which has many water, outdoor and creative activities, or combine a morning or afternoon session with a Key Explorations class. The cost for an afternoon session of Traditional Day Camp for campers entering first, second or third grades, is $150 per week ($130 for week of July 2-6). Afternoon-only sessions are not available for pre-school age campers.

Each group of campers is led by a knowledgeable and qualified adult counselor who always has an assistant counselor working along with them. Campers are grouped by age and/or the grade they will be entering in the fall. The counselor to camper ratio is 1:5 for pre-school campers, 1:6 for kindergarten campers, and 1:7 for the others.

Do you love animals? Spend the week with us learning about the animals that live on our planet. We will learn about farm animals, wild animals, tiny animals, and big huge animals. What kind of animal would you like to have a as a pet? Which animals would you rather just see in a zoo? Become a make-believe veterinarian this week and learn how to care for animals at the Summer at KEY Animal Hospital. We’ll also discover some crazy facts about animals that not many people know. So if you like animals, this is the camp for you!

Are you ready to take a trip around the world? We will “visit” Africa, Asia, South America, and India. Campers will discover what children from other countries do for fun as they learn to play traditional games from those countries. We will make Japanese lanterns, African masks and Mexican piñatas. Campers will get a taste of what kids from around the world look like, what they like to eat and what the language they speak sounds like. So, grab your passport, fasten your seatbelts, and hold on tight because here we go on a trip around the world!

Have you ever slept out in your backyard under the stars? This week we are going to spend each day on an imaginary camping trip in our Key School backyard. Campers will learn to pitch tents, identify the animals we might see if we are camping in the woods, and find out about the stars and planets in the night sky. We will make s’ mores, sing songs and tell stories around the campfire. It is sure to be a week filled with awesome outdoor adventures.

Spend some time this week exploring what it would be like to be an astronaut on a rocket ship headed into space or how to be a good undercover spy with secret codes and disguises? Do you have what it takes to be a famous rock star or a top chef? It will be a fantastic week exploring jobs that might be in your future.

Come to camp ready to create! There are no limits to one’s imagination. This week we will use our imaginations to make puppets and mini theaters and act out fantastic worlds of make believe. We will create spectacular futuristic towns out of Lego’s and blocks. We will use our imaginations to create new games and toys. We’ll mix up different concoctions and see what we get and create beautiful artwork using any materials you can imagine. This is the week to inspire you and let your imagination run wild!

Discover the mysteries of the deep blue sea with us this week. During this week of camp, we will explore the depths of the oceans and learn about some of the creatures that live under the water. We will set sail on the seas to learn about pirates, boats and mermaids. We will make a pretend aquarium, fish from our pirate ship, and build and launch our own miniature submarines. Come along and jump in with us as we discover the deep blue sea!
