All regular, full-time and part-time employees who work a minimum of 20 hours or more per week are eligible to participate in one of the School's 4 health benefit plans: United Healthcare (HMO), United Healthcare (PPO), United Healthcare High Deductible HMO, and United Healthcare High Deductible PPO) as well as dental coverage through United Healthcare. The United Healthcare HMO and the core dental plan premiums are paid in full for employees. Additional coverage for the individual or family members will be paid by the employee.
Key School offers generous retirement investing through TIAA. Investment options include mutual funds, bond investment funds and life cycle funds. Full-time employees who are 21 years or older and work at least 1,000 hours per fiscal year are immediately eligible to participate in the retirement plan. Key School will match full-time employee contributions (1% minimum) to their retirement plan up to a maximum School match of 5% of your total salary, excluding benefits. All part-time employees (less than 1,000 hours) may participate in the plan with no match from Key.
Tenure Benefit Program
Key School’s tenure benefit program offers full-time permanent employees (.75 FTE or greater) additional income based on their salary and years of service. The menu of options for allocation of this benefit are:
- Retirement (TIAA, this contribution is not eligible for matching)
- Medical /Dental Plan upgrade
- Child Care Expense (flexible spending plan)
- Life Insurance/Vision, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance
- Any combination of the above
School funding levels of base salary:
1-5 years - 3.5%
6-10 years - 4.0%
11-15 years - 4.5%
16-20 years - 5.0%
21+ years - 6.0%
Paid Time Off
All employees (.50 FTE or greater) of the school are allowed ten (10) working days of sick leave per fiscal year with full pay for absences necessitated by personal illness, disabling accidents or illness in the immediate family, i.e., parents, spouse, children, grandchildren; Unused sick leave shall be cumulative to a maximum of thirty (30) days, including the current year’s allowance of ten (10) days and shall be credited at the beginning of each fiscal year (July 1).
Employees (.30-.49 FTE) of the school are allowed five (5) working days of sick leave per fiscal year with full pay for absences necessitated by personal illness, disabling accidents or illness in the immediate family, i.e., parents, spouse, children, grandchildren; Unused sick leave shall be cumulative to a maximum of fifteen (15) days, including the current year’s allowance of five (5) days and shall be credited at the beginning of each fiscal year (July 1).
Employees (.29 or less FTE) of the school are allowed two (2) working days of sick leave per fiscal year with full pay for absences necessitated by personal illness, disabling accidents or illness in the immediate family, i.e., parents, spouse, children, grandchildren.
Up to three (3) days of contingency leave per qualifying event may be granted by the Head of School upon request. If travel is required beyond 100 miles, up to four (4) days may be authorized. This contingency leave, if granted, will not be applied against sick leave or non-sick leave. The following list, while not exhaustive, is indicative of situations for which contingency leave may be granted:
- Required court appearances as witness or litigant or jury duty.
- Major disaster affecting immediate family member or property.
- Death of immediate family member.
- Attendance at ceremonies where a member of immediate family is graduating, being married or receiving an award of major significance.
- Non-paid participation in civic, musical or dramatic groups of significance to the school.
- Other (i.e. college admission visit with child, first drop off to college with child, citizenship ceremonies, funeral service for close extended family member)
- All faculty (.50 FTE or greater) and ten month staff may use up to two (2) non-sick leave days per school year.
- Twelve month employees may use up to three (3) non-sick leave days per school year.
The School provides 12 weeks maternity/paternity leave from the date of the birth of the child per the Family and Medical leave Policy. Of this 12 week leave, the School provides 6 weeks paid leave. Accrued sick leave and current personal leave days may be used to extend pay while on leave.
Vacations and Holidays
Faculty/10 Month Staff
Faculty and 10 month staff shall be entitled to vacation according to the schedule of school vacation periods.
Twelve-month employees (.75 FTE or greater) shall be entitled to paid vacations during the school’s fiscal year as follows:
- (2) two weeks first and second years of employment
- (3) three weeks third and fourth years of employment
- (4) four weeks fifth through nineteenth years of employment
- (5) five weeks twentieth and subsequent years of employment
All faculty are entitled to paid holidays on all school closings per school calendar.
Administrative staff in non-instructional offices shall observe abbreviated working hours during “mid-winter" and "spring break” periods: Tues-Thur 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; Offices are closed on Mondays and Fridays.
Summer break office hours for instructional and non-instructional staff offices are Mon - Thur 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; Fri 8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.
All full-time employees hired after January 1, 2003, are eligible for Key School tuition remission for one child* each year, contingent on the admissibility of the child, beginning with the second school year of employment.
Full-time status for faculty is based on a 10-month work schedule. Full-time status for administrative staff is based on a 12-month work schedule.
Full vesting for this program takes place according to the following schedule:
- First year 0%
- Second year 33%
- Third year 66%
- Fourth year 100%
Tuition remission is available to all employees working within the academic year and during regular school hours of the academic day (8:15 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.).
*Child in this context refers to a biological, adopted, stepchild, or child who is a dependent of the employee for tax purposes. In the case of divorced or separated parents, children who otherwise meet the requirements to be treated as a tax dependent of one parent are treated as a tax dependent of both parents for the purposes of tuition remission.
After School Program
Key School is pleased to provide the After School Program free of charge to faculty/staff children in grades Key-Wee through eight during those times when the employee/parent is on School business and when the regular After School Program is in session.
Professional Development Fund
Funds are designated to support the professional development of the faculty and staff and can be used for attendance at workshops or to take a class which will be of benefit to the faculty/staff member and to the School. Applicants can expect to receive up to $1,500 for graduate work. For requests that exceed $1,500, only 50% of the remaining balance will be considered for funding.
