Matthew Nespole, Head of School

Matthew Nespole

Appointed 2015

Matthew Nespole earned his B.A. in history and theater from Bates College and an M.A. in educational leadership from Columbia University's Teachers College. He came to Key from Rippowam Cisqua School in Bedford, NY, where he was Head of School for six years. Previously, he was at Packer Collegiate Institute at Brooklyn, NY, where he served as director of admission for seven years and assistant head of school for five years. Mr. Nespole began his independent school career at Trinity School in New York, serving as associate director of admission. Throughout his career, Matthew has maintained an active role with students, teaching and coaching.

Marcella M. Yedid

Appointed 1999

Marcella Yedid earned her B.S. in music and languages from Indiana University and her M.A. in French and Italian from Brown University. She came to Key from University School, Hunting Valley, Ohio, where she was assistant to the head of school. Ms. Yedid taught French for eighteen years at Hawken School, Mercella M. YedidCleveland, Ohio, where she was also assistant head of Upper School, director of educational planning, and the assistant head for institutional advancement. She taught French and served as head of the language department at Shaker Heights, Cleveland Ohio.

Ronald S. Goldblatt

Appointed 1989

Ronald Goldblatt earned a B.A. in literature, history and philosophy from Shimer College and his J.D. from the University of Chicago. He came to Key from Wykeham Rise, a girls' boarding school in Connecticut, where he served as a teacher, director of finance and development, and headmaster.

Rodney V. Beach

Appointed 1976

Rodney Beach earned his B.A. in chemistry at Dartmouth College, an M.A. in history from Columbia University, and an M.Ed. from the University of Cincinnati. Before coming to Key he was headmaster at The College Preparatory School in Ohio.

David Badger

Appointed 1971

David Badger earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his master's degree in liberal studies from Wesleyan University. He served as head of the upper school at Pembroke Country Day School in Kansas City before coming to Key.

Edward P. Oviatt

Appointed 1964

Edward Oviatt earned a B.A. from Williams College and an M.A.T. from Wesleyan University. He came to Key from St. Mark's School in Dallas, Texas, where he was teacher, coach, and assistant headmaster.

Corwith Cramer, Jr.

Appointed 1962

Corwith Cramer, Jr. earned his B.A. from St. John's College, a B.A. in history and government from Yale University, and an M.S. in history and education from the University of Pennsylvania. He taught at Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia, and at Hopkins Grammar School in New Haven, Connecticut before coming to Key.

William Darkey

Appointed acting headmaster 1961

William Darkey earned his B.A. from St. John's College and his M.A. from Columbia University. He was a tutor at St. John's College, and took a one-year leave of absence to serve at Key.

Peter Kellogg-Smith

Appointed 1958

Peter Kellogg-Smith earned his B.A. at St. John's College and his master's degree in education from the Putney Graduate School in Vermont. He was a tutor, St. John’s College before accepting a fellowship to study physics and biology at MIT. He served as assistant to the head of Gunston School prior to coming to Key.
