6th Graders Tackle Shoreline Erosion

6th Graders Tackle Shoreline Erosion
  • Middle School

The challenge: As members of the Civil Engineering Corps, our 6th-grade students have been tasked with designing and fabricating a way to minimize erosion and flooding along the Annapolis shoreline, including the United States Naval Academy waterfront.

As part of this U.S. Naval Academy STEM Center for Education and Outreach project, students learn about the impact of erosion, runoff, and eutrophication on coastal areas, and prototype and test solutions. As an extra bonus, Junior Jackie Mednick lent her Barn neighbors a hand prepping the materials for their engineering challenge. All in the day's work for the STEM students at Key.
