Fourth Grade Olympics

Fourth Grade Olympics
  • Lower School

For the past few years, P.E. teachers Vicki Brunt and Jonathan Coslick have conducted a mini Olympics featuring the fourth grade class. This contest was conceived as a co-curricular adjunct of their ancient Greece studies being carried out in the classroom.

On competition day, the students were divided into teams based on five city-states: Athína (Athens), Spárti (Sparta), Kórinthos (Corinth), Thíva (Thebes), and Árgos. Mirroring the Olympic competitions performed in ancient times, students could vie with each other in several events including the pool noodle javelin throw, shot put, long jump, discus, weighted ball toss, hurdles, and distance run.

The weather was perfect and, as you can see from the photos, the athletes had a lot of fun.
