Haley Havard ‘21 Named CFAAC’s Young Volunteer of the Year
- Upper School
Senior Haley Havard will receive the Young Volunteer of the Year award as part of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County’s (CFAAC) 20th Anniversary Celebration of Philanthropy. Each year, the CFAAC committee awards community members who “generously give their time, talent, and treasure to assure that philanthropy in Anne Arundel County continues to grow.”
Haley was nominated by her advisor Laura Burrell Baxter in recognition of the long-running non-profit she founded while still in Middle School called Haley’s Helping Hands (HHH). “I honestly don't know any young person like her!” said Ms. Burrell Baxter, citing that her giving spirit, unrelenting care for others, humbleness and kindness were deciding factors in the nomination.
Haley began HHH to provide gently used clothing and shoes to homeless individuals and families in 2015. She shipped 500 items out that first year. Through incredibly hard work and a commitment to helping those less fortunate than her, by 2019 that number grew to 9,200 items shipped nationally and internationally to those in need.
