Dear Families,
Since my note to you last evening we have received several replies that indicate access to appointments for testing at both public and private venues is contingent on symptoms, pre-screenings, and in some cases not available. Today's Capital Gazette has an article indicating that testing at County sites now requires an appointment. I was not aware of these logistical issues until today. It is unfortunate that testing capacity is being stretched in our region.
There have also been several questions about the PCR test itself. In general, it is a more accurate test than the Rapid Tests which have a higher false negative rate. The Mayo Clinic website has a good description of a PCR test.
We ask that you continue to explore options to acquire a PCR test. We will be in contact early next week to determine what percentage of our community was able to schedule testing, and how that will inform our decision regarding school operations.
Other than hospital capacity, metrics are thankfully trending down. I know we all hope this continues.
Stay safe and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Matthew
