Dear Key families,
After consulting with the Department of Health, regional medical professionals, and a consortium of AIMS Schools, we have determined that it is not necessary for all students to take a COVID-19 test in order to return for on-campus instruction on January 11.
Given the new restrictions in place in Maryland, Anne Arundel County and adjoining counties, and the ten-day window we have created from New Year's Day to the return of on-site instruction, negative PCR tests are required for students who:
The transparency and communication within our community has been an essential tool in mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on campus. We fully expect everyone will remain committed to taking the individual steps necessary to keep our community safe, and thank you in advance for your ongoing support. Please contact Katie Anderson to let her know if your Winter Holiday Break plans require a test. Thank you to those of you who have already shared travel and holiday plans with her.
All members of the faculty and staff working on campus will be taking a COVID-19 test at Key during the week of January 4 to ensure that we are able to be adequately staffed prior to January 11.
I want to remind you if your family is travelling, to follow our Travel Restrictions. These restrictions are aligned with new state requirements announced yesterday. Reports from the Health Department regarding Thanksgiving show a clear connection with travel/family gatherings and positive cases. Even when a family is traveling and limiting their interaction to immediate family, there is an increase in the risk of contracting COVID-19.
Everyone is asked to use the distance learning week of January 4-8 to quarantine in a safer-at-home environment to further reduce the risk of our community's exposure to COVID-19.
With your support and cooperation, we have experienced minimal disruption to on-campus instruction due to this virus. We are counting on each member of the Key community to continue to follow our established protocols for the health and safety of all.
I wish each of you a healthy and happy holiday break. Stay safe.
Warmly,
Matthew
