Drop-Off & Pick-Up
- Parking is available in the Main Parking Lot (see map) with overflow parking available in the gravel lot along Hillsmere. Please adhere to the following:
- Drive slowly when approaching and entering the Key School campus.
- Be alert to the many children of all ages who may be walking near your vehicle.
- Do not leave cars unattended with the motor running anywhere on campus.
- Do not park or turn around in residential driveways or make illegal U-turns on the Hillsmere community streets.
- Be aware of traffic patterns and signage on and around campus. When entering the main parking lot, there is only ONE ENTRANCE from Hillsmere Dr. and ONE EXIT onto Carroll Dr.
Drop-Off: On-time arrival is crucial as the doors to our buildings will be locked after the drop-off period. On the first day of camp, park and check in at the “Welcome Area” outside the camp office which is located in the Farmhouse. View a map of our campus here.
For morning-only and full day campers:
- The camp day begins at 9:00. Drop-off on the first day of each camp week begins as early as 8:30 (to allow for extra time to find your camp and/or speak to the school nurse) and at 8:45 the rest of the week.
- Counselors will be available to walk you to your camp on the first day. Parents/guardians should walk their child(ren) to the door of the classroom where their camp is based the remainder of the week.
- We ask parents/guardians to kindly drop children at the door of the classroom with the counselor and not linger in the hallways. If you have questions for the counselor, call the camp office and we will help arrange a time to meet with the counselor.
For afternoon-only campers:
- Afternoon camps begin at 12:30. Campers can arrive as early as 12:25 on the first day of camp and 12:30 the rest of the week. We will have counselors ready to greet you just outside the camp office.

Pick-Up / Family Codes:
- Campers must be picked up at 3:30 p.m. from their camp location unless they are pre-registered for Aftercare. We allow a 15 minute grace period for pick-up.
- Campers not picked up by 3:45 will be taken to Aftercare. Since they are not pre-registered, the charge will be $25 per child and will automatically be charged to the credit card on file. Traffic is always a potential issue, so consider putting a back up plan in place for pick-up in the event you are running late. We will not waive these Aftercare fees because of traffic.
- If taking a morning-only camp, campers must be picked up promptly at 12:00 from their camp location. Aftercare is not available for morning only camps, and late fees may be charged per camper beginning at 12:10.
- Counselors will ask for your four-digit family code that you created in the online portal when registering.
- The code will be for every child you have at camp and remain the same throughout the summer.
- Any person picking your child up must have this code.
- It is your responsibility to share it with the person picking your child up -- campers will not be released without it.
- If you forget your code, log back into your account and view your Household information.
Late Camp Arrival / Early Pick-Up:
- If you are arriving late to camp, pull into the main parking lot, park, and call the camp office at 443.321.2575. We will contact your child’s counselor and have them meet you at the front door of your camp’s building.
- If you must pick your child up early, call the camp office to provide the pick-up time. When you arrive, pull into the main parking lot, park, and call the camp office. We will have your child’s counselor meet you at the front door of your camp’s building with your child and their belongings.
Lunch and Snacks
- Full day campers should bring a nut-free lunch and nut-free snacks for morning and afternoon breaks.
- Morning-only and afternoon-only campers should only bring snacks for their half day programs.
- Please keep in mind we do not have refrigerators available for storage. Non-perishable foods or insulated lunch bags with ice packs are recommended.
- Full day campers will eat lunch with their group in their classrooms or at a designated area outside.
- Summer at KEY is a "nut-restricted" camp. No foods containing any types of nuts are allowed. Please carefully check the labels on the foods you send to make sure they are nut-free.
- Campers should bring labeled water bottle(s) filled with the amount of water you think they will need for the day or a refillable bottle. Water refill stations are available throughout the campus.
What to Wear & Bring
Campers should bring/wear the following each day:
- Backpack for belongings - campers may need to transport their items with them throughout the day.
- Beach towel
- Labeled sunscreen - campers should come to camp with sunscreen applied.
- Labeled water bottle(s)
- Nut-free snacks and lunch
- Shoes that can get wet for programs that involve water activities. Flip flops are not allowed.
- Athletic shoes for all sports programs - see camp descriptions for other requirements.
- Masks are currently optional for staff and campers. If you want your child to wear a mask, please send two with them.
- Cell phones - If you choose to allow your child to bring a cell phone to camp, the phone will need to remain in the camper's backpack throughout the day.
- Please do not send any extras like toys, trading cards, personal gaming systems, or music players, etc. with your child.
Camper Health Information
From time to time, the nurse must determine whether to send a child home. In such cases the child’s health, as well as the risk to the other members of the camp community, is considered. When it is determined that a child cannot remain in camp, the nurse will contact the parent or guardian first. If they cannot be reached, the emergency contact will be called. Due to COVID-19, we are requiring that each camper has someone that can be on campus within 30 minutes to pick them up. As a result, it is important to have pick-up plans with emergency contacts in place.
Medication Policy:
Parents are encouraged to administer medication at home when possible. If any medication (prescribed or over-the-counter) must be taken at Camp, a Maryland State School Medication Administration Authorization Form must be completed and signed by a medical professional and by a parent or guardian. It should be turned in to the Camp Nurse along with the medication. The only exception will be for the non-prescription medications of acetaminophen (Tylenol), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), and diphenhydramine (Benadryl). The Camp provides students with these medications, when necessary, if permission is given on the campers Medical Form, which will be filled out as part of the registration process.
Any medication to be given at Camp must be given to the counselor at drop-off in the original container. The counselor will bring it to the camp nurse. The medication container should be labeled with the following:
• Name of camper
• Name of medication
• Dosage of medication to be given
• Frequency of administration
• Route of administration
• Name of authorized prescriber ordering the medication
• Date of prescription
• Expiration date (Expired medications cannot be accepted or administered by the
Health Office personnel or designate. This includes inhalers and Epipens.)
Campers in grades five through eight may carry and self-administer inhalers and Epipens, once the Camp Nurse has received the appropriate documentation. The camper’s health care provider must sign the designated space on the Maryland State School Medication Administration Authorization Form (see above).
Please be aware that nebulizers, which are used to provide inhaled aerosolized medication for asthmatics, are no longer allowed on campus for student use. The Health Office is following best practice and specifically not using nebulizers until further notice due to the potential risk of aerosolized spread of the COVID19 virus. If your child requires nebulized respiratory therapy, please contact your child’s provider to discuss other options.
All medications should be picked up on the camper’s last day of camp. If not picked up within one week of the close of camp, the unused and unclaimed medication will be disposed of properly.
Immunization Records:
As long as your camper is currently enrolled in a public or private school in the United States, simply supply the name of the school on the registration form. If your child has not yet entered school or is enrolled in a school outside of the United States, a complete immunization record must be submitted to the Health Office as soon as possible. The Camp Nurse must verify that the camper is in compliance with the immunization requirements for Maryland.
If the camper is exempt from immunizations due to medical contraindication, an immunization record signed by a licensed health care provider must be submitted. Please note: Campers not immunized according to Maryland state guidelines due to religious objections will not be permitted to attend Summer at KEY.
Action Plans for Serious Medical Conditions:
If your child has asthma, severe food allergies, seizures, bee sting allergies, diabetes, or any other serious medical condition, the appropriate Action Plan form is required to be returned to the Health Office at least two weeks prior to the start date of their first camp. These forms can be found on our website in "All Camp Forms" in the tab below.
The completed paperwork can be emailed to Nurse Katie Anderson at kanderson@keyschool.org, faxed to 443.926.9394, or mailed to: Summer at KEY, Attn. Nurse Katie, 534 Hillsmere Drive, Annapolis, MD 21403. Be sure to allow plenty of time if mailing. Campers will not be able to attend camp until this information is received.
