Summer at KEY FAQs

Programs are available for children ranging in age from 3 1/2 to those entering 12th grade. We are unable to accept campers younger than 3 1/2 years by the start of the camp session due to our licensing requirements. All campers must be potty-trained. 

If staying for a full day, campers should bring a nut-free lunch.  All campers should bring nut-free snacks for morning and/or afternoon each day. Nut-free snacks are provided to all campers staying for After Care.

Our average camper-to-staff-member ratio is 8:1. 

No. The only camps that go to the Hillsmere Community Pool are Swim Club and our full-day Traditional Camps for ages 4 to 1st grade. See camp descriptions for details.

If your camper brings a cell phone, the phone will need to remain in the camper's backpack throughout the day. If a camper needs to contact you, they should speak with their counselor to make arrangements. If a camper wears a smart watch, the same policy applies. They should refrain from using it to text or make calls during the camp day.

The majority of our camps are one-week long with a few exceptions that may be two weeks in length. We offer both full-day and half-day camps.

Summer at KEY is a “nut-restricted” camp. Foods containing any types of nuts are not allowed. Please check the labels on each food you send.

From time to time, the nurse must determine whether to send a camper home. In such cases the camper's health, as well as the risk to the other members of the camp community, is considered. When it is determined that a camper cannot remain in camp, the nurse will contact the parent or guardian first. If they cannot be reached, the emergency contact will be called. The expectation is that the camper will be picked up by the parent, guardian or emergency contact within one hour. As a result, it is important to have pick-up plans with emergency contacts in place.

Yes. Changes can be made up to two Sundays before the start of each camp week. See Registration Policies for a list of dates. A $10 fee per camper will be applied for each change. The non-refundable deposit or full payment can be transferred to the new camp that is being added but cannot be transferred to an existing camp registration. If switching to a lower priced camp after May 15, refunds will not be given for the difference in cost.

Change Request Form

Non-refundable deposits are due for each camp upon registration and are required to reserve space in a camp session. Deposits will be applied to the total cost of the camp.

Balances are due on or before May 15, 2024.

No.  Camp deposits are non-refundable, but they are transferable if you are adding a new camp to your registration.

Unfortunately, we do not offer any financial assistance at this time. 

We do not offer a sibling discount.

We do not offer Before Care but have After Care until 5:30 each day. You must pre-register for it at least two Sundays before your camp week begins. Please see the closing dates in the Registration section on our Policies page. Space is limited, and registration for After Care is on a first-come, first-served basis. Daily drop-in is not available, and there is no After Care for half day, morning only camps.

For safety reasons, our buildings will be locked after drop-off. If you are arriving late, park and call the camp office at 443.321.2575. We will have your camper's counselor meet you at the front door of the building where there camp is based.

Call the Camp Office at 443.321.2575 once you have arrived and parked. Since the buildings will be locked, we will contact your camper's counselor and have them meet you at the front door of your camp’s building with your child and their belongings. The person picking up will need to provide the family code as described in General Information Drop-Off and Pick-Up.

If your camper is not picked up by 3:45, they will go to After Care. Because they were not pre-registered, additional extended care charges will apply.

You created a four-digit family code  during the registration process. A parent/guardian or any other person picking up will need to provide this code to the counselor. Please share your code with your pick-up person. Family codes will remain the same throughout the summer. Campers will not be released without it. If you lose your code, call the camp office for assistance.

We do not offer transportation service to and from camp.

At pick-up, counselors will ask you or anyone picking your child up for the four-digit family code that you created in the Household Form during registration. You can find your code later on the upper right side of your Household Account Statement (invoice) under the date and tax id number.
