Middle School Summer Math Assignments

Required Work:

Rising sixth grade students should print and complete the summer math packet. The completed packet should be brought in on the first day of school and given to their sixth grade math teacher.

Optional Work & Resources:

In addition to the required packet, there are two optional resources for additional summer math practice. Families may:

• Purchase a Summer Math Skills Sharpener workbook to use this summer. If interested, purchase the book titled Summer Math Skills Sharpener 5th Grade. Review pages are included in the workbook. Students will be able to answer most of the questions in the workbook; however, there are some concepts that may not be very familiar (including adding and subtracting negative numbers, working with percentages, some topics related to measurements in geometry, and statistics/probability). Students may choose to skip these problems or research and answer them as enrichment.
   
• Use the Khan Academy 5th Grade Math Review or the Khan Academy Get Ready for 6th Grade free online math programs.
